Shoe Shine Tower, London

This was a moveable piece of furniture sited in the City of London’s public realm that enabled conversations with workers; hoping to get beyond the pre-conception that the square mile was a mono-cultural, and sterile place. It was commissioned as part of the Summer 2012 Olympics and was part of a series of pieces of furniture that were made and transported around the city throughout the games.

The tower comprised throne, ottoman, and stool. When unfolded the use was clear but when folded away the expression of the tower was deliberately ambiguous.

Status: Completed.

In collaboration with Andrew Barkley.
